Help! I need somebody?
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength. It shows you have the courage to admit when you don't know something, and to learn something new. - Barack Obama
I like to assume I can do everything on my own, I’ll stumble through it, I’ll put my shoulder down and I’ll get it done! It’s in my nature just to do things on my own and get it done my way, the way I want. This comes from a need for control, and a sense of pride, “if I can do this on my own, I can take all the credit”.
I AM NOT GOOD AT ASKING FOR HELP!
Asking for help is not weak, it’s necessary! For several reasons, the first being; everything you want to do has, for the most part, already been done. If you’re looking to lose weight, well you’re not the first. Find those around you who have been there before, ask what worked, what didn’t, tips and tricks, and who those people trusted to help them, such as trainers, dieticians, and planners, and doctors as well. If you’re training for a specific sport or activity, well clearly you‘ve found inspiration somewhere else to get you there… find more of those people, close to you and get after it.
You can follow your own path, but you don’t have to walk it alone.
Reason number 2: it’s hard to see your own journey when you’re living it. You have your head down, pushing that boulder uphill, you can’t see what’s in front of you. Those close to you are looking out for you, heck strangers are looking out for you, and really the world is looking out for you. Seek help from those around you, I have had more the one person in recent memory say, “I see you, I get what and who you are, follow your path, keep going”. It allowed me to feel less alone in my journey, it freed me to ask more questions without feeling judged, and it taught me to listen better.
The last little piece I can offer as to why to ask for help is the best one. Doing something alone is great, there’s a sense of accomplishment and payoff you can bask in, but when you have a team of supporters behind you, the energy just gets bigger! Having a team behind you brings a level that’s hard to describe! Think about those days when you’re mentally down and struggling, your team is there to pump you up. Your coach will push you to that next goal, be it distance, time, weight, whatever it is you need and want to hit. Don’t forget your friends, ask your friends for their help, even just to understand what you’re doing, and you’re not crazy and this goal you have is amazing and wonderful.
Asking for help is not a weakness, asking for help will make you powerful!
