Rest, Recharge, Destroy
The Holidays are coming up fast, and the older we get the faster they come. Burn out is inevitable!
This is all written in hindsight with a “Do as I say, not as I do” thought process, as I do not know how to shut off until the “check engine”, “system failure” lights are on. This is a warning from your future in a sense. Please, Please look after yourself.
Your job is stressful? The kids are running you ragged with their programs and sports and school? Christmas and all the social responsibilities that come with that is on its way? Explosion imminent! Remember a time before this Pandemic where we would all get sick right before or on Christmas? It’s because we’re run down and drained.
Look after yourself, slow down, be thoughtful of what your doing and how it will effect you. For myself that means drinking more water and getting more sleep. I’m not the best with my diet, especially as it cold (I like to feel warm and cozy with my meals this time of year), I don’t know how to shut off and do nothing, often upping my workouts to 2adays when I can, and trying to look after my business and family as well.
First of all, forgive yourself, allow yourself to relax and push away the guilt of sitting around for a few hours reading or catching up on Yellowstone. Drink all the water, and think about your caffeine consumption, I know it’s dark out faster and longer but pay attention. Eat healthy but eat what you want, I tried buffalo cauliflower bites this past weekend, a much better choice then the deep-fried wings. Use the gym, your trainer, a walk with the kids, or hockey with the boys as that downtime to recharge the brain. For me it’s a run in the snow, ME TIME.
I will also say, start your journey when you are ready. So many of us feel guilty about the holidays and this time of year that they jump back in January first and fail 2 weeks later. That whole “I’ll start on Monday or the beginning of the month” mentality. You start when you are ready, get your self-talk right, set yourself up to win, make those plans where you can’t fail no matter what!
Take time for you… Rest… Recharge… Destroy!
