Enough with the “New” You

I hate it!

I can’t stand the language we use when we start a new journey into physical and mental health. I am also guilty of it too, so I’ll cut you some slack. You are awesome as you are right now! Unless you’re a self-absorbed serial killer and we just can’t see it, then you are not awesome. But you are likely not that and thus STILL AWESOME!!!

We’re not replacing you, we’re making little changes over time, alterations to fit more comfortably in our own skin. Daily adjustments with purpose as to see we get to our end goal. Sometimes like clothes, alterations need to keep getting made, something you think might fit, just isn’t quite right, re-adjust and try again. Slowly but surely getting to where you need to be.

13 years ago there wasn’t a “New year, New Me” statement made, in fact I had no idea of what was to come. A plan was offered, and I took it, slow baby steps. Those baby steps turned into toddler stumbles, and childlike hops. Somewhere along the way I got confident but new nothing… teenagers come to mind, and I had some struggles, oh man did I have my struggles! But you’re going to have your struggles, that’s okay, nothing worth doing comes easy.

You grow from failure and learning from it, math wasn’t easy the first time, you didn’t jump from “Hop on Pop” to “Harry Potter”, physical and mental health comes with time as well. Find and reach out to those who you trust, who you’ve learnt from before, step out of your comfort zone and get ready to fall, but make sure you’re ready to get right back up again!

This is not a new you! This is a stronger, empowered you, slowly growing over time in a new aspect of life.

It’s only scary for a little while, trust me, You got this!
